The Joy Formidable. I have not heard a wall of sound like this from a female-fronted band since…well, never. On record they are great; live they are even better. I love this band so much I couldn’t decide which song to choose, so I gave you two: Whirring and A Heavy Abacus.
Bat For Lashes. She is on many of my lists and for good reason. Not only is she an amazing songwriter and vocalist, but she has an incredible, mostly female band backing her up. For the love of rock, check out this drummer on Sleep Alone!
Metric. Their records are hit or miss, but their great songs are truly great. Check out Help I’m Alive, and you’ll be hooked.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Cool and heavy, but also accessible, this band is great for those who are ready to dive in a bit deeper. If you want the heavier stuff, check out the early albums. Otherwise, here’s Zero from their 2009 album It’s Blitz!
Sleater-Kinney. Reunited, with a just released box set and a new album on the way, this classic female band is having a resurgence. Check out their new single, Bury Our Friends, and welcome back the rock!
