"Our daughter is super thrilled to have gotten into both Laguardia and Murrow for vocal. We just wanted to thank you all for all you did to make that possible. BMF gave her a safe place to develop not only her skills but her passion for music. It really means so much to her and we’re super proud!"

-Ann, a BMF Mom

Rock Write Record bands are where kids ages 9 and up come together to write and record songs, collaborate musically, level up musicianship, and learn the skills needed to play in a band. Students develop advanced music fluencies by playing games and writing songs together with their band.

Rock Write Record II (Position bands) are our most advanced band offerings. Bands write multiple songs each semester, diving deep into lyric writing, recording and the finer points of performing and creating as an ensemble. Bands work towards greater and greater autonomy in their songwriting as they build the essential toolbox they need to confidently create on their own.

What Happens in
Position Band Classes?

Bands write multiple songs each semester, diving deep into lyric writing, harmony and the finer points of performing and creating as an ensemble. Bands work towards greater and greater autonomy in their songwriting as they build the essential toolbox they need to confidently create on their own.

A typical Rock Write Record class includes the following:

Warm-up Game - Our warm-up games get kids playing their instruments, warmed up, and introduce the music concept for the day. These advanced games challenge our students and can STRETCH their ears and their musical minds!

Rock Pit - This is where the band levels up the BLAM of the day (that's Big Lesson About Music of course!) Our music games reinforce the concept of the day in an interactive (and super fun) format.

Songwriting - Band members exercise their creative muscles and write lyrics, melodies or chord progressions together. Position bands write multiple original songs together as well as complete a collaborative recording.

BandStand - Complete with vocals, keys, electric bass, electric guitar, and drums, it's time to bring it all together. This is where the band puts the BLAM of the day to music, and band members jam on their original song, or a specific section of the song that they're trying to complete that day.

Recording - Our students write and record finished songs they can share with family and friends! (Some bands even go further to create music videos!! See below)

What Parents Are Saying:

"BMF has helped my child continue to collaborate and create during the Covid-19 crisis. His weekly band practice has been important to continue for the continuity as well as creativity and I am glad BMF figured out how to make this happen."

-Lydia, a BMF Mom

"My daughter started with one of their summer camps a few years ago and she has been taking individual and band lessons there ever since. She's not just become a fantastic guitar player, she's found a wonderful group of friends and a supportive staff and environment to grow as a person. This is a wonderful place for budding child musicians of all ages!"

-Rick, a BMF Dad

"I recommend BMF without hesitation. This school has had an extraordinary input on all of my children. All three now are enrolled and rocking and rolling to more confidence, musical skills, and community jamming that is inspirational and a joy to witness!"

-Annie, a BMF Mom

Band Class VS Private Lessons

Some students do one or the other, some do both. Which one makes the most sense just depends on your child and his/her goals and interests. In private lessons, students focus on their instrument of choice, developing instrument-specific skills and techniques, while also learning non-instrument specific skills like rhythm, ear training and theory. In band, students learn how to make music as a band, writing songs, playing music games and building their music fluency. Choose private lessons to focus on a particular instrument, band to focus on broader music skills, or both for the complete package!
