Album Gift Guide: “If they like…”

Been hearing a little bit too much Taylor Swift? Take your children’s musical knowledge a little deeper by giving them one of these incredible albums this holiday season:

If they like Sam Smith…
Introduce them to Aloe Blacc.  Yes, he was the voice on the monster hit “wake me up” this year, but his solo stuff is lesser known and has some great songs. Specifically check out “I Need a Dollar” from the album “Good Things.”
If they like Taylor Swift…
Introduce them to Civil Wars – a less poppy, but really engaging and soulful country duo. As far as albums, “Barton Hallow” is the way to start ’em out right.
If they like Death Cab For Cutie…
Introduce them to Neutral Milk Hotel, specifically the album “In The Aeroplane Over the Sea.”   Any indie rock lover must have this fantastic record in their catalog.
If they like Lorde…
Introduce them to Fiona Apple, the dark pop artist of the 90’s and early 2000’s who like Lorde, also didn’t quite fit the mold.  She’s got a lot of music out there, but I would go for “When The Pawn” or “Extraordinary Machine” if you are gonna get just one.
If they like Paramore…
Introduce them to Silversun Pickups. Heavy, catchy songs meant for playing loud. “Swoon” is your go to album for sure.
If they like Ed Sheeran…
Introduce them to Damien Rice, a lesser known acoustic artist with gorgeous songs.  Get the album simply named “O” and immediately have them listen to the track “The Blower’s Daughter” for a real tear jerker.
If they like Green Day…
Introduce them to album “London Calling” by The Clash, once called “the only band that matters” by the British press.
Happy shopping!
