How long is each band class?

Mini Keys: 45 minute
Jam Band 101 & Jazz Track: 60 minutes
All other bands: 75 minutes.

How many classes do the students receive?

Our program runs from September through June. Each band class receives 30 classes per school year. Some days of the week end up getting a few more depending on the holiday schedule. Band classes do not have make-ups.

What does my child need to bring to the first class?

Absolutely nothing! Our studios are fully outfitted with everything a band needs to rock. If the student wants to bring their own guitar or bass, they are, of course welcome to.

What if my child can’t make it to a band rehearsal? Do they get a make-up class?

There are no make ups offered for Band classes. Attendance at all rehearsals is the best way to ensure the band is ready to rock come gig time.

What typically happens in a band class?

Every class opens with an African drum circle. The class then gets moving and grooving while they transcribe lyrics, song forms, or chord progressions. Finally they land on the band stand ready to tackle the next section in their cover song or compose their original pop masterpiece. The BMF approach to learning how to play in a band goes far beyond simply jamming on the band stand. It is a fun, game based approach that gets musicians psyched to play and challenge themselves.

How can I see a band class in action?

We have over 300 videos on our Youtube channel. Click here: BMF Youtube Channel
But, honestly, the best way is to become a member today and join a band. Every musician has two classes to test the waters and see if BMF is the right fit for them. Our registration is 100% Risk Free. If, for any reason, Brooklyn Music Factory does not seem like the right fit, we will refund your membership fee & any tuition you have paid.

Where are the band classes held?

All of Brooklyn Music Factory band classes meet at 295 Douglass St. (between 3rd and 4th Ave) Buzzer #5.
Pick up & drop off policy:
Your child’s safety is the number one concern we have at BMF. We will not let any student under the age of 14 leave unaccompanied without a release form being signed by the parent. All families receive the release form in the first week of the trimester. Students may NOT go outside to wait for parents.

Why do we have release forms for all of our members?

We have release forms for all students. They address:
1. Who can pick up the student and wether or not they may come and go from the Factory solo.
2. Giving BMF permission to record/video/photograph the student. We use audio and video for both teaching and promotion purposes.

Who will be my child’s teacher?

Want to read about our amazing faculty…go here for a short bio on each: BMF Faculty

How many musicians are in a band class?

Whenever possible we limit the number of musicians to 6, though some advanced bands will have more because of a horn section or multiple singers.

Being present is one of the hardest parts for many parents though, even though being close by during practice is no different than(…)
